Today, while traveling in a taxi in Singapore, I realized that it really is true that we get better at whatever we practice. Having ridden in taxis all over the world I am always amazed at the surge forward, swerve right and left, slam on the brakes driving style that cab drivers share in every city. How can this be? Aren’t these professional drivers? Wouldn’t you expect them to be great drivers since they drive so many kms every day? But when you think about it, they are good at what they practice – bad driving!
So what would it take for these nausea making experts to become expert drivers? First, they would need to have the “to be” goal of being a smooth, professional and efficient driver. Second, they would need a clear vision of seeing themselves drive this way. Third, they would need to identify the exact behaviors necessary to complete this vision. Finally, they would need to practice these skills diligently. Imagine how happy we all would be if this were to happen.
Even more important, what are the things you really want to improve to help you become a Sustainable High Performer? Now you know how, so get practicing.
