Every year the US Media reports that the average adult gains 7 to 10lbs (3.2-4.5kg). I did some research and found out that’s pretty exaggerated but even if you only gained 1lb (.45kg) every holiday it wouldn’t take long before you gained a significant amount of weight. The fact is that so many of our clients share with us that over the holidays they often stop their regular movement, forget about their usual portion sizes, and drink way too much alcohol. While I’m completely supportive of friends, family and libations the problem is that it doesn’t have to be this way.
At Tignum we are all about just moving. It doesn’t even have to be intense or at a gym. Think about your holidays and how many opportunities there actually are to go for family walks, go for a hike, take a bike ride, kick a ball around, or even just do some family daily prep :). How good do you feel after you move? Chances are that you naturally eat less. Even more important you have more energy and more passion for enjoying your holidays.
I recently read a great blog from Virgil Aponte about the amazing fitness lessons people in NYC learned from the 2005 Transit Strike (read blog here).
They started walking to work, roller blading, cycling and basically just moving more every day. The fitness and health benefits were remarkable but I bet so were the Mindset and productivity benefits. At first people probably complained but then they did what we as humans are built to do - they moved.
This holiday, don’t wait for a transportation strike, just build movement into every day and then you will truly enjoy your holidays.
