This week there was a great piece on the Today show here in the states about the mental toughness training that the navy seals go through. It’s logical to think about a warrior as being mentally tough but there is a lot that we can learn and apply in business. The most important component of mental toughness is mission focus. As we work with top executives so much or our mindset training is about identifying and resisting distractions. This is mental toughness. Steve Siebold, a mental training colleague of ours, recently wrote a great blog about another key component and that is overcoming your “approval addiction”. Being addicted to getting other’s approval is a huge distraction and it definitely takes away from your mission focus.
Today, ask yourself, what is my mission? Once you’ve identified your mission take away everything that doesn’t help you achieve that. I’d love to hear how your day goes.
