For many teams and companies, Q4 means the final stretch to deliver the needed results for 2014. Failure is never an option. How can you make sure you and your team are ready for it? How can you get the best from your team and yourself so you can drive the success you want? In our experience, it isn’t by pushing harder. It will require some better thinking and some Sustainable High Performance strategies.

First and foremost, it’s critical to not just focus on the outcomes but rather on the performances you need to do weekly, maybe even daily, to get to those outcomes.  Second, we know that you won’t make those goals alone so you will need to get the entire team thinking and acting in the most productive and effective ways. So how can you make sure your team has the agility, stamina, and resilience to deliver? How can you make sure they can put the necessary energy into every day? The answer isn’t that complicated. Talk with them about it. Put the topic of Sustainable High Performance on the table just like you put the targets on the agenda. During your next team meeting, spend some time to discuss the following questions with your team:

.01  As we move forward with all the challenges we face, what are ways we can ensure that we will have the energy to be our best?  How are you individually doing this currently?

.02  What are ways to personally be sure your brain will be as creative as possible?  How are these strategies incorporated into your daily life now?

.03  As with any role where output is critical, there will surely be failures and setbacks.  How can we build the resilience and mindset necessary to not be distracted by these challenges? How are you acting out these strategies now?

.04   Imagine our team full of energy, creativity, and resilience.  Imagine purposefully focusing on the right stuff and with laser sharp action doing the right things. How did we get here?  How did we support one another along the way?  What have we accomplished because of this? What do we want to continue to do more of in the future?

Over the past 10 years, we have found that when teams have these types of discussions, everything changes. If you struggle with the answers, let us know because we can help you. Also, let us know how it goes and what other questions you discussed. Finally, as always, remember that great human performance is the foundation for success.
